Question: Creating Digital Art Cities!?
I have seen so many great digital artists who have futuristic cities in their works!. What kind of software do they use to make this!? Or, if they don't use software, what techniques do they use to make them!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The best sci-fi/fantasy artists are usually very good at drafting, which means technical drawing, and rendering, which is adding color, texture and light and shadow!. It calls for a strong understanding of perspective, which lets them put together a convincing imaginary world!. No amount of software will compensate for a lack of drawing skill, any more than the latest software can turn someone into a really good designer or illustrator!.

As with writing, the best fantasy has a strong relationship with reality!. To start a digital city, draw a real one and make sure the buildings, transit ways and open spaces make visual sense!. Don't worry about details like doors, windows, chimneys; just get basic shapes in so that they sit believably in the space you are arranging for them!. Then you can embellish and upholster with skyways and flyways and turrets and dragonports etc!. to your heart's content!.

Establish your light source! A fantasy city looks at its best with convincing shadows and lighting!. It also is nice if you can render a good background!. If you understand about point-of-view, you can place the horizon wherever you like (or have no horizon) and have extraterrestrial sunsets, large numbers of orbiting objects or whatever!. If you're working digitally it doesn't matter, but if you're painting "in the flesh," put the background in first for a much better finish!. Enjoy!Www@QuestionHome@Com
