Question: Auditioning for art at a preforming arts high school and need help!.!.!.!?
I need to create a portfolio by august 12th!. I have already two done pictures that i really like, and have like three that aren't finished yet, but are going to be in my portfolio!. I need to have six to ten pieces in it!. This audition is a late audition, meaning that people were already accepted but some people dropped out so they still have spots that could be filled!. The first audition i tried out for dance and didn't get in, so don't lecture me that i shouldve done the first audition!. But anyways, my question is that i need some good ideas for drawing!.
I like the sketch and am good at it!.
I like them to be creative, like things that when you look at it you'd be like woah that's crazy or woah that's creative!.
Any ideas!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well for a portfolio a good structure is to do a group of works that show you strongest area (both medium and subject) for example chalk pastel portraits, or water color flowers!. Then you have a bunch of others that are a mixture of subjects and mediums!. If you do everything in graphite it will hurt your portfolio!.
Try and show a wide variety of compositional styles!. for example using different focal points(having the subject be off center) and breaking the image plane, have the subject go off of at least three sides of the page!. Use effective perspective!. And don't forget about foreshortening

I drew you a man with an afro!. but look how his arm creates perspective

Use a wide range of values!. (which is missed in graphite) Have you picture contain both really dark darks and Bright lights!.

a lot of people just use graphite and get one intermediate tone If you use darks and lights your picture is more potent

Use line quality to express emotion

1 looks kinda carefree
2 looks angry
3 looks erratic
4 its just straights lines and looks like a badly drawn flower!.
thicker lines look heavier and thinner lines look lighter, theres a lot to work with go crazy

Pleasepleaseplease do not do any of these

Were you take a photo and just draw it!. thats so lifeless and not hard to learn!. I can do it better than that guy and I didn't even have to try hard (trust me I'm not that proud, If I want a copy Ill use a copy machine)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to show them who you are, the person your experiences, your background, ethnic or religious or cultural and incorporate that into a least one piece or art work, also a self portrait
and the environment is really big now so a piece on being green or using recycled material!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Judging from your works, you aren't going to get in!. You have no real skill!.

Your works are sloppy and immature!. Show breadth, use different mediums, use different styles, show that you can learn by presenting these styles and such in your pieces!.

I understand that a lot of kids feel that drawing form observation is boring, but if you draw from your "imagination" and it isn't very good, you aren't showing that you're an artist!. Art education, as far as the high school level is concerned, isn't about the ideas in your head, it's about using mediums and developing yourself technically!. If you can use the technical knowledge to build upon your imagination, even better, but technical knowledge has priority to what you think is art!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
