Question: Why is the lighting on soap operas always so weird!?
I've always noticed this strange golden light shining on the actor's hair & everything else!.

It's very distinct!. What is that!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

They tend to use fairly dramatic lighting which is augmented by the frequent use of a diffuser filter (better known as a soft focus filter)!. That's why many soaps have a "glowing" quality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is all stage lighting !.!.!. mostly from the rafters like on a theaters stage!.

Then they spend a lot of time setting up lights for each actor!. It is a highly stylized set and each soap opera has its own styleWww@QuestionHome@Com

So that when you are channel surfing you can instantly identify that it is a soap and know to go on the the next channel without wasting another second watching it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are still soap opera's on!? I would guess the reason is to just try to make the actors look as good as possible, maybe even to distort reality a little, which may have some appeal to viewers!.
