Hi

In short, yes!. You do have some talent, which can translate to academia!. When it comes to art and fashion, they are two completely different disciplines!. So be aware of that first!. If you plan on becoming a professional fine artist, then you need to be able to adapt your drawing skills to a number of mediums and means!. Most art colleges (including fashion related ones) will require you to submit a portfolio of work!. So practice, practice, and then practice again!.

If you plan on becoming a fashion designer, then do your research as to what the typical illustration techniques are!. Fashion (especially haute couture) houses, have very specific ways of drawing costuming and clothing!. A great easy way of checking out this kind of drawing is to rent some DVD's where there is a great deal of costuming work done, and take a look at the way at which the costume design is drawn out in the special features portfolios!. Some great DVD's that show this type of work are: "Catch Me If You Can", "Memoirs of a Geisha", and "Titanic"!. If you are serious about fashion design, you may find inspiration in the works of Collen Atwood, who does costume design for many high end films (She did the costuming for Memoirs of a Geisha)!.

Practice doing that sort of work for the next couple of years!. If you see an improvement, go ahead with your plans for art school the way you think of them in your head!.

If you do not see improvement, try to shift your ideas of working in the industry to simply another part of the process!. Instead of designing, you might want to consider textile development or pattern making - all very good and creative forms of work in the medium!.

The other thing about art school and applying, is that they don't expect you to be perfect from the get go!. Apply, and you will more then likely be surprised on how accepting they can be!. They expect you to be serious - it's not just fingerpainting class - they will professionally critique you, the work is plentiful and there's a lot of it, as well as many late nights, but in the end, if it's your passion, it will be worth it!.

And contrary to popular belief, you can make a living with a Bachelor of Fine Art, you may not end up being a fine artist full time (a lot of them have day jobs and paint the other half of the time to make ends meet), but you can make a living in either art making, art selling, gallery work, or a myriad of other jobs in the profession!.

So keep at it! And as wise person will tell you, do have a Plan B!. You never know what might come down the road!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course you can get better! Every day you can get better if you work at it!. Get a book teaching proportions, try drawing from real life and photos, and just!.!.!.draw every day!.

also, you'd be surprised at how many art majors in college really aren't all that great technically at art!.

Good luck in the future!Www@QuestionHome@Com

you are very good at drawing clothes, and your people are pretty good too!. i mean, they aren't spectacular or anything, but just keep practicing!. You should take drawing, or fashion designing, or whatever classes if you really want to improve!. You also should buy books about it and read up on the way you draw certain things!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your drawings are pretty good for your age!.

The good news is that art is not a talent, but a skill!.

Your dad probably means well, but like most people, he assumes that because he can't draw and doesn't understand how others do, that art is a talent!. But art is a skill that can be learned and developed like anything else!. So your dad is incorrect in saying that you can't improve your drawings!

The bad news is that your drawings will not improve on their own!. It takes commitment, education and hard work to improve a skill!. But you've already got a head start and enthusiasm on your side!. Now you need to show your commitment!.

My parents were uncertain when I chose art for my career choice too!. They're immigrants and worked very hard to make my life stable, and art can seem very unstable!.* But I took many art classes at my high school and community center, as well as summer classes for high school students offered at some art colleges!. For example, life drawing classes will help you learn how to draw what you see, not just what you know!.

It's great that you are starting to think ahead!. Choosing a college is a big decision!. Your parents should be supportive of learning about your college options, such as getting brochures, touring campuses, attending open houses and portfolio review days, where they will give you more specific feedback about what to put in your portfolio for your application!.

(also, Dodson's Keys for Drawing is a great book for loosening up your linework!.)

If you can take advantage of these opportunities, it'll improve your skill!. Maybe it will also show your Dad how serious you are about art!.

*Eventually my parents came around!. I got into a great private art college and graduated with honors, and got some great jobs teaching art!. Being an artist is a bumpy road, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think for a 14 year old !. !. !. you are pretty good!. Um could you improve enough to do art and fashion design!?

Well this all depends on you!. It depends how much you are willing to dedicate the art, and how many different styles to chose to do!.

DO NOT stick to one style and continue on it, you have to learn different techniques and styles and combine them to make something your own!.

I suggest you take visual arts throughout highschool and fashion design if your school offers that!. I would also suggest you invest in a tablet and start using photoshop and work on your graphic tecqniues as well!.

And artist should be well rounded, and especially into a world centered around technology using photoshop is a must!Www@QuestionHome@Com
