I have been making models and ceramic molds for over 30 years!. I wouldn't try to buy a mold if I were you!. Here is how I would make a light weight sand castle that looks real:
Step 1 - Decide what you want it to look like!. (Get a small sculptured sand castle, original drawings, or photographs)!.
Step 2 - Cut cardboard pieces to make the cylinders, cones, stairs, bricks, etc!. that resemble the model!. (you can remake them if they're not quite right or use your imagination to alter your work as you go)
Step 3 - When they fit together the way you want use a glue gun and glue additional cardboard pieces onto the inside across the butt edges or cardboard tabs between different shapes!.(Leave the bottom uncovered until the hollow castle is almost done)
Step 4 - Mark windows, doors, etc!. on your cardboard castle!. Glue as many layers of cardboard under areas marked that you determine will look good!. Cut through layers then glue more cardboard under cut-outs to seal off the hollow interior of the castle!.
Step 5 - Glue brick shapes, eve shapes, stairways etc, onto outside of castle!.
Optional step - You could make the castle more stable by making a bottom of cardboard (or partial bottom supporting sections to make gluing easier since no one will see the bottom unless they turn it over!.)
Optional step - You could use plaster at this time to add to the sculpture or transition between sections that don't fit exactly right!.
Step 6 - Spray the outside with spray adhesive and immediately dust with dried sandbox sand from the hardware store!.
Optional steps - You can add additional layers of spray adhesive and sand if you feel it needs it or seal the outside with clear spray paint if you want!.
Sounds like an interesting group project!.
Good luck!.

If you want something somewhat permanent, then using real sand isn't the way to go!. For one thing, it will likely crumble as it dries!. For another, you can't make a good sandcastle with a mold because of!.!.!.I forget the term!.!.!.maybe it's negative tansfer!.!.!.something like that!. basically your shape is very limited because it must be able to slide out of the mold!. No recessed areas!. And a 2 part mold is no good because sand has to be packed really tight to hold it's shape!.

I seem to remember a spray-on sand texture!. Similar to fleckstone or something!. Maybe you can make the form of the sand castle out of something else!.!.!.styrofoam!.!.fiberglass!.!.!.clay!.!.!.so!.!.!. like that!.!.!.something sturdy but easy to shape, and then spray it with the sand texture and then sand colored spray paint!? I think a talented person could make a pretty convincing "sand castle" like that!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
