Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Dictionary meanings aside!.!. I think the term pornographic when used in the derogatory sense is in the eye of the beholder!. I have many many books on erotic art!. From an artistic point of view I really like them, from a pornographic point of view, I can't say they do anything for me!. I make no judgment of others or their motivations, I tend to think that sex is a healthy thing, and that the ridiculous idea put out by western society that sex and the human body is somehow unclean is a travesty of moral justice!. I don't subscribe to it!. Art is art, but it is also many other things, but the fact that it is art is independent of all other labels!. Erotic art, when skillfully executed is beautiful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Is pornography art!? What exactly is art!? Tough question isn't it!. Can somethint that is made for a primary purpose also be considered meaningful in an atristic sense!? Could a car be art!? Could a bridge be art!? Could a building be art!? Mostly we would say yes, so why couldn't pornography be art!? As long as what your friend does has artistic merit, surely it doesn't matter if it is erotic, arousing pornography!. Even if something was very graphic, could it not be argued that the reaction was intended and is therefore a provocative work of art!? There are certainly non-erotic works of art which fit this description so why not erotic too!? As a subject try to understand what it is they are trying to express with their work and ensure you are comfortable with what they intend to produce!. I'd say if you are not being exploited, if it has artistic intent and artistic merit, and if the goal is not just to get someone aroused but to explore something deeper and more meaningful, it's art!. Peter paul Reubens made a living painting full figured women naked (hence how we get the word Reubenesque when describing such a woman), and his work is generally considered to be art!. But conservative people might see it as porn!. And how can a movie like Toy Story have "artistic merit" but the latest Vivid Video can't!? Why not!? It's all in the way you look at it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com What I've usually considered as the line between porn and art is in whether or not the sexuality is used to help inhance the picture, like in a lot of fantasy art, or just having sex so there will be sex in it, which I guess would be pornographic!.
