What youre supposed to do is measure the different parts of whatever you are drawing by holding a pencil in front of you at arms length with the top of the pencil at the top of the part youre drawing and your thumb at the bottom of the part youre drawing!. Transfer that distance on your pencil to your paper and that is your proportion of the part youre drawing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Technique varies with varying results as far as measuring proportion, one answer suggested going arms length, I've been taught various way in art school!. What seems to be the overiding helper is not so much using a pen, or a perspective box (a small metal you hold in your hand box w/a window cut out) but lookig carefully at points between objects!.
For example perspective between a corner of a building and a tree, look at where angles, edges, corners etc!. start and align to each other!.
Practice drawing from various angles with simple objects and use the same technique on larger pieces!.
There is no one rule, all that it takes is practice and a trained eye!.
Be patient and observe very carefully lengths, widths, and distances!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
