Hi,

I know that in portuguese is diafragma, which is in english is diaphram (sp!?)!. I guess that in terms of photography it's called aperture!. Like the name indicates, it opens to let the light get in!.
The shutter, which here is obturador, dictates the speed of the shot!.
Usually as the speed increases, one has to open the aperture more because the time for light getting in is less!.
Then according to situations you'll have to give priority either to aperture (usually in poor light conditions) or to the shutter (usually for sports)!.
If you do it totally manual, you'll set both, if you do it semi-automatically, you'll set one and the camera will set the other accordingly!. Or you can do all automatically!. It all depends on your experience and what you want to achieve!.
I don't know much about photography, but many years ago on my vacations I worked at a photography association :-)

There are two openings!.

The aperture which regulates the volume of light that passes through the lens once the shutter is opened!.

The shutter regulates how long the light is exposed to the sensor (or film)!.

Both are openings!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
