Question: I have the same problem, but I don't know enough to get if off 16 bit or Lab Mode!. Where are these choices!?
also I'm having trouble watermarking a batch of photos at a time!.

People always say, "Make an action", but how do I do that!? And how do I use it once I made it!?

Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First you will have to save your images as JPEG!. To do that you will have to open your image files in Photoshop!.

Then Image > Mode > Make sure that the RGB is checked and 8-bit is checked!.

What you did not tell us is that you shot these images either in RAW or TIFF and are now attempting to convert them to JPEG's!.!.

When you process RAW files, if you look you will see that there is an option to save the files as an number of different file types, including JPEG at 8 -bits

Adobe has a fine tutorial on making actions!. Similar to writing macros in spreadsheets or word processorsWww@QuestionHome@Com

The easy one first: The choices for 16 bit and Lab Mode are in the same menu!. Go to Image-->Mode and set it to 8 bit!. If you are planning on posting these on the web, select RGB as well!.

The actions are a little more complicated!. There are some things you have to understand first!. You have to have a folder where the original images are and a folder for where you want your edited copies to go!. The most important thing to understand is that you are creating a list of things for Photoshop to do to a bunch of images!. Photoshop just repeats this list over and over!.

First, create the folders on your hard drive!. Just make sure you have somewhere to keep the new images Photoshop creates!.

Now open the first picture of your batch!. With it already open, go to Window-->Actions!. Click on "Create New Action" at the bottom of the pallet next to the trash can!. Name the new action (probably something like Watermark) and click record!. (If you do not already have the image open before you click record, you will be adding opening this particular picture to the instructions and it will reopen over and over again!.)

Edit the picture as needed!. If all of your pictures are in the wrong mode, be sure to include this step at some point!.

Choose how and where you want to save the image!. If you are posting to the web, the best choice would be to use the Save for Web!.!.!. in the file menu!. Don't rename the file, just save it in the folder you created for the new images before you started!.

AFTER you've saved and CLOSED the file, click STOP in the actions pallet!. The action will have been recorded and is now available for use!.

To actually use an action, go to File-->Automate-->Batch!.!.!.

At the top, find your action in the drop down menu!.
Choose the location of the original files!.
Under destination, choose None from the drop down menu (remember, your action includes where and how to save the files)!.

Click OK!.

The first one may ask you if you want to save over an earlier version (remember, you saved this one in that location to record the action the first time)!. Just click OK and Photoshop should fly through the rest of the files!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
