well!. the camera is going to have to be set up on a tripod or table!. then you put it on a timer mode!. the light is coming in from a window on the left side of the camera, but there is also fill on the right hand side!. you could use a reflective piece of white poster board as fill on the right hand side if you don't have photo reflectors!. as far as distance i would use a portrait lens!. somewhere around 85mm to 105mm!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all, that isn't a self portrait!. Second, it's extremely difficult to pull off a shot like that as a self portrait because there are too many factors that will need attention to do it yourself because otherwise it will be A LOT of trial and error!. Things like lighting, focus, and framing are difficult to adjust when you go between being behind the camera to in front of it!. That image was a professionally lit shot, whatever you are able to accomplish, you will likely not achieve this effect on your own!. If you want the look of that shot, you really need to have a professional take your portrait!. Or, at the least have a friend take it!. If you want tips on how to take a posed self-portrait, I recommend you have a camera with a good auto-focus system, a remote shutter release on self timer, and try to be near a window having the natural difuse light of the window on one side and a reflector on the other so that you can fill in the shadows opposite the main light source!. Practice taking some posed shots to get the framing and pose right from varying distances and try to take as many as you can to increase the chances of finding the needle you seek among the haystack you have set out to make!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
