Question: Pentax k10!. Trying to take model portrait without flash!. Pictures come out blurry-not sharp!. HELP!?
I'm trying to take a model's picture againt white or color background without the harsh shadow created by using the pop up flash!. If I don't use the flash the picture is blurry and not sharp!. If I use the flash, it's sharper but has harsh shadows around the model!. I'm in manual mode right now using a Pentax k10d!. Please help!.

Just look at the lighting on the shots you like!. You will notice at least two things!. 1) more than one light is used (key, fill and maybe others to modify the lighting) 2) have your models stand at least thee or four feet from the background!.

Look on photographer/model networking sites like Model Mayhem or One Model Place for lighting ideasWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well I can't check your photos out because I don't do the myspace thing!. But, you have a couple of options!. One option is to make sure that you aperture is opened up wide!. If your still getting blurry shots you can bump up your ISO to 800 or 1600!. This should allow you to shot in lower light conditions!. If its still not working try taking some halogen or tungsten lights (like a desk lamp or two)!. Use these as your lighting source (you will need to set your white balance accordingly)!. Adjust them so that everything looks good (shadows where you want them highlights in the right places etc!.) See link below for a shoot I did with just 2 halogen lights!. The other thing that comes to mind is that you can take a white business card and arrange it in you flash so that it "bounces" the light up to the ceiling!. This will help get rid of any shadows and will also soften the pic up quite a bit!. You could also use some type of translucent plastic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Damn! I Am I the only photographer left answering these questions!?

If your images are sharp with a flash and blurry without, it is because of motion blur caused by not being able to hold the camera perfectly still for the longer exposure!. Use a tripod!.

Go to my myspace page and look at some of the portraits there!. NONE of the images on my site were shot using a flash!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Come on! You are passing yourself off as a serious photographer, yet this is one of the EASIEST lighting patterns to master!Www@QuestionHome@Com
