You won't be able to develop color film at home because it uses different chemicals, and you have to be very careful with the temperature and development time!. But you CAN easily develop black and white film yourself at home!. It's a lot of fun actually, and you'll learn more about real photography!.

You should do some research online and at your local library!. Do a search on Google for developing black and white film!. But basically, you need two chemicals!. One is called the "developer" and the other is called the "fixer!." When film is exposed to light, an image is formed but it's invisible!. The developer develops the image, and the fixer makes the image permanent so that it's no longer light sensitive!.

You actually don't need a darkroom to develop film!. You can use what's called a "changing bag," which is a light proof bag with holes for your arms!. The only part of developing fim that you have to do in total darkness is when you load the film onto the reel and put it in the developing tank!. It's a little tricky at first, but when you practice it's not that hard!. They have plastic reels and tanks that are a lot easier to use!. You just turn the reel and it loads the film onto notches on the reel!. Then you put the film in the tank and close it, and you can do the rest in normal light!.

You need to do some research and read about all the steps!. But what you'll do next is pour in the developer chemical, let it sit in the tank for several minutes (depending on what kind of film you're using), then rinse it and pour in the fixer!. Rinse the tank again, and the film is done! You'll be amazed when you open the tank and there are actually real images on the film!

The whole process takes maybe 15 minutes!. It's easy!. You just have to follow the steps!.

The only thing you would need a darkroom for is if you want to make prints!.!.!.!.if you want to develop pictures the traditional way, with an enlarger!. If you're seriously interested in photography, you should try it!. It's a lot of fun!. Yeah, it's more work, but it is a lot of fun, and also not everyone can do it!. So you'll be doing something different!

I develop my own film and pictures!.

You should read more about it and then give it a try!. You can get the chemicals at a good camera shop, or also order them online!.

And forget what that one girl said about "just get digital!." If you want to try something different, GO FOR IT!. Everyone should try something new once in a while!. Besides, you can learn more about REAL photography with a film camera, instead of just pressing a button on a cheap digital camera!. A lot of the pictures I've taken with film are a LOT better than the ones from my digital camera!. Film can capture more detail if it's properly exposed!. There's too many people just posting "kewl pics" on MySpace these days with a digital camera who don't know anything about real photography :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I took photo in highschool and we developed our own film and pictures!. I would recommend taking a class for it; the paper, chemicals and all the equipment involved is very expensive!. If you take a class it would be cheaper and you would have someone there to help you learn!. also when you develope your own film if you mess up, the whole strip or even just some of it can become black or have markings on it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What you should do is take a class at local community college!. To learn how to develop & print photos (even black and white) can't be easily taught on line!. Color prints are even more difficult (and what I mean is that if you want predictable results as in consistent results from roll to roll, then you'd have to do it correctly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
