The Canon, with the extra MP's, will be able to produce larger prints, however you could look at the Nikon D40x or the D60!. These two cameras are at a different price point and a better comparison might be the Nikon D300 vs the Canon 40D!. Of the two you mentioned, I would expect the Canon have more features and external controls, but IQ will be the same!. My suggestion would be to buy the Nikon and spend the extra money on some top quality Nikon lenses!. It is the lenses that will have the most profound effect on your final image!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The Canon 40D is a 10 MP camera and SHOULD taken BETTER quality photos than the Nikon D40 because the Nikon is 6!.1 MP if I remember correctly!. I have used BOTH on assignments and prefer the Canon 40D!. You'll probably find that Canon's lenses are less expensive, yet still high quality!. The Canon camera is more expensive but has more features that might make you a bit more creative than the Nikon camera!. The Canon 40D is probably more equal to the Nikon D-200 camera!. Study the specs on the Nikon D-200!. It is also a 10 MP camera!. Canon will also be releasing their 14 MP camera within the next 12 months!. Nikon D40 is a very good beginners camera, it helps you to understand DSLR world and learn new things and it is very very small and light!. One thing that is bad about D40 that it doesn't have built-in AF motor!. But overall it is very good camera (I had it once)!. Nikon D40 LCD is better than Canon 40D!. No seriously!. When I compare colors in 40D LCD and D40 LCD, then D40 LCD is way better!. Right now I'm using Canon 40D!. 40D has 10!.1 MP (if you wanna make stock pictures and or print pictures, nikon d40 only has 7), perfect resolution and good tonal response, Huge LCD!. Things I don't like about it 40D are that Automatic White Balance is a little bit poor under incandescent light!.Www@QuestionHome@Com As I said before: The Canon 40D is better!. The two cameras you are comparing are of two different classes!.
