Hi,

Portraiture or figure drawing are usually the most difficult subjects, namely because they demand some anatomical knowledge, good draughtmanship and keen observation, especially of propostions!.
Read about human proportions, namely about the head!.
Pay attention to values (lights and darks) to give a better sense of volume to your works!. You can do so by squinting your eyes when looking at a subject!.
Remember something : painting/drawing is learning to see!.
For insteance, lets suppose that you want to paint some clouds!. Have you ever really observed them !?
Have you ever paid attention to their colours, their shadows (core and cast), how the sunlight influences their aspect !?
That's observing and learning to see!.
Good luck and keep praciticing!.

Yes!.!.!.it is very good for a beginner!. I liked the shadow effect you used!. Another good way to blend shadows is to use the tip of your finger to blend the pencil in!. If you go over to where you don't want a shadow, simply use a good eraser!

Have you gone to the library to get books on drawing yet!? These can be a wonderful resource to learn new and different techniquesWww@QuestionHome@Com

It takes time and practice to train your mind to 'really' see the underlying bone structures, muscles of the human face!. To understand how to catch the lights and shadow by using graphite pencils!. There is an excellent website, drawright!.com!. The book, Drawing Right Side Brain is excellent!. I've seen this as a required text for a Drawing I college class!. Don't stop practicing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You sketch screams beginner!. If you want to improve just keep practicing!. Consider taking some art classes and maybe even anatomy to help further your knowledge about drawing the human form!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Okay Fausto; the work has bold lines in it and it would be considered "graphic" arts by the standards you have started with!. As well it could be considered to be in the same league of "Folk Art"!.
At thirteen you've got at least ten years to gain the basics!. Here are the basics!.
One; "perspectives", this includes non-linear as well as linear perspectives!.
Two; "composition", you have three basic forms of composition, square, triangle, and circle!. (your composition would fall into the circle composition as you've drawn out a rather oval face there)
Three; "colours", your primaries, red, yellow, and blue!. These are your hues to mix your secondaries, purple, orange, and green!. Together the six of the colours with black and white can give you your tertiaries which are very important for depth and moulding of your work!.
Now those are the basics son!. If you can master those three then you are well on your way to your goals!.
Your drawing is that of a novice but it does show raw talent!. Don't let it go to waste!. To improve you must practice, but be careful because practice does not make perfect; practice makes permanent!! So if you are going to pursue your craft then it is best to invest in the written word as well as the visuals of "BOOKS"!. Books are such a beautiful thing !.!.!. they instruct you when there is no one there to help you!. The instructions will assist you in practicing properly!.
So I would suggest 'ye get thine mother on thine side and go get thee three books'!. If she has the funds she will help you, don't be afraid to ask because people underestimate the power and the glory of mothers by far!. They make us boys or they break us boys!. So get on her good side and have her help you get a sound and good book on "perspectives"!. This book on perspectives should cover one point, two point, three point and non linear perspectives as well as a slew of other recipes to gain proper perspectives for circles etc!.
Colour!. So important! There are so many books out there about colour and you have to be careful not to get a book on colour theory in film, or light becuase they are different than The visual arts!. When you get into film and lighting you'll see!.
Composition!. That's a tough one, but do try to get a book that will explain what composition is!. Google the word with artistic in a book section and something will come up!.
Do not rely on photos!.
Please!.
Stay away from photos as much as you can!. Draw from real life!. Draw beetles, ferns, tree limbs, donkeys, fences, corner stores, cars, graveyards, bolt locks, front doors, shrubbery, glasses, and glass!. Draw from life!.
All the best to you and your endeavours!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
