I'll be frank!. You're friend has a slight point!. But he/she is also stupid!.

To explain, it's true that some people may have more natural talent (I attribute this to someone being able to naturally have more muscle control over fingers), but with practice, anyone can acquire this!.

I couldn't draw people for the longest time!. I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil (doesn't mean I was any good) and when I was a kid, I would draw people with perfectly round heads and normal bodies!. They would have animal faces, just because that was what I was good at!. Now I can draw people without a hitch, but only because I practiced what I was bad at!. You need to improve at what you don't know, instead of just working on what you do know!.

So now that I'm done with that, I'll answer your questions!.

Anyone can paint!. Look at Jackson Pollock!. He's famous, and all he did was throw paint at a canvas!. So anyways, as far as realism is concerned, it's all practice!. Even if you had lessons, (which at first might make you progress swiftly, but eventually brings your progress to a grinding halt, which Ill explain later) it wont help you develop your own unique style!.

People are hard!. Study a few simple anatomical drawings!. Keep the drawings isolated, like a drawing of an eye in six different poses!. Work that with a lot of body parts!. After that, just go to a park with a sketchbook and perform super quick gesture sketches of people walking, playing frisbee, etc!. They shouldn't take more than ten seconds to draw!. After that, try to put the whole thing together, and look at yourself to reference of proportions, or look online at some anatomy help sites!. All in all, in about a year, if you draw every day (or even four or five months if you're a fast learner) you should be decent at drawing people!. It wont be like Da Vinci, but it'll still be impressive progress!.

The best thing to do is to practice every day and try new things!. The reason earlier I said that a teacher will bring you to a grinding halt is because a teacher tends to know techniques and tricks you don't, which will help you begin faster, but when you start to get better, the teacher will start telling you that something isn't going to work before you even try it, or will tell you that your ideas aren't any good and they know best because they've been doing it for so many years!. Most teachers get like that!. Believe me, I've had quite a few!. When that happens, most of the time you hit a rut where you don't learn something new except when you go home to paint by yourself, where only the paint or drawing board is there to tell you what it should look like!.

I hope this helps, and if you want any more advice, you can post your art up on www!.deviantart!.com, and get very nice feedback from quite a few artist with different opinions!. My Deviantart account is at http://tsau-mia!.deviantart!.comWww@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, art is usually natural talent!. Doesn't mean that it limits greatness to only a few genetically gifted individuals!. Well, everything I pretty much wanted to say has been said!. But just take a look at places like DeviantArt where people have posted progression shots of their art over the years and you can realize that wow, anyone can learn to draw if they're devoted enough!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ive been drawing since i was 9, if you start now you can be a good painter, but it will take a while for you to get the hang of drawing people (i still havent mastered it completely)!.I draw nearly every single day, so i think you should get someone ask them if you can draw them, and dothis at least once a week!.Hope this helps!.

Oh honey, anybody can become an artist! And that word is tossed around liberally these days!. And though it helps to be able to have a natural drawing ability, it is not required or necessary anymore!. Just look at the works of Kandinsky, Picasso, the Dada movement, Pollock, and I could go on!.!.!.!.

BTW, I went to artschool and you have no idea the amount of students who weren't born with that drawing ability! Numbers are staggering, but it does not deter their enrollment any less!.

For freestyle dwg, I recommend you go to figure drawing session!. You just pay a fee at the door (proceeds go to the nude models) and you just draw openly the models' body poses!. It really sharpens your abilities because they pose in 15 min/ 20/ 30 min/ 5min formats!. So you gradually speed up!. You can draw however you want!.

Most folks take a sketch book and charcoal sticks, sometimes a stick smudger!. But you never, EVER, erase! That is blasphemy! Whatever you put down on paper you work with- covering up is a major no-no and taboo!. Some colleges with art programs give these sessions so you may want to look into it!. Good luck and have fun with it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are people with born talents for art--that I cannot deny, but without constant practice and dedication, talent means nothing!.

Of course you can be a good painter someday!. There's no telling when you'll be able to be good at drawing people, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't start today!. The sooner you start drawing, the sooner your skills grow (but you need to keep working at it)!. Since you're starting out, try finding pictures you like and try to reproduce them--as a start!.

If drawing people is something you're interested in right now, then you can look up tutorials on youtube which show various techniques step-by-step!. I'll give you a head start:

You don't necessarily need to take lessons, but it's also good to hear the opinions of other people, concerning your art!. The feedback may sting but they are sometimes helpful for your growth as an artist!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

What it takes is application and observation at the basic level, there are technical requirements that will help/hinder you but you can work your way through those!.

The difference between drawing and painting , again at a basic level, is that drawing often means drawing the outline of a figure, painting means painting blocks of tone inside the figure!. For figurative painting you need to develop the skill of drawing (all those artists mentioned by ringading could draw and some of them beautifully), you also need composition, but above all you need to watch how light hits a surface and is reflected, observe how different surfaces react to light, metal vs skin for example!. Watch how the tones and hues are intense in the foreground and less so in the distance!. To a degree all it takes is dedication!.

1 – Yes
2 – You can start now
3 – In the beginning any practise is good, start with proportion of the human figure try to understand anatomy how the body works, the limits of the flex of joints!.

EDIT: why do people assume that Jackson Pollock couldn't/didn't draw!? Okay they aren't everybody’s cup of tea, doesn't the first engraving remind you of Guernica!?

first: find out your style of art!. there are many different ways to do it, charcoal drawings pastel art painting and all that, try a few and find out what brings not the best in you!.

then: know what you want to draw and just go for it! you'll mess up allot but keep going no mater how bad it is till you finish!. just so you can get the feel for drawing that object [or what ever] most of my best drawings are the f**k ups that i was going to throw away but ended up fantastical!!! lol

now for practise: i wouldn't start out straght from your imagination, pick a picture or another drawing you like and go off that, see the different styles the artist uses and just get a feel for what is going on,

you really cant go to web sites or classes you need to just put yourself in front of some paper and see what happens!.

after you draw somthing you like ask some one you dont know how it looks!. [poeople you dont know are better cos they dont know you and really wont care about your feelings]

try to do a drawing only when your in the mood, i cant be forced to draw!. i just know when im in the mood and BAM i do some sick drawings lol!.!. you'll know when the mood hits!.

draw somthing that means somthing to you, cos then you'll put moe passion into the drawing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
