Question: Kodachrome 64 or velvia 50!?

They're really don't have a whole lot in common, so it's hard to compare them!.

Kodachrome 64 is a high-contrast film with very subdued color rendering!. It's relatively sharp, but grainier than every other slide film on the market(except for Fuji Provia 400X, with which it shares the same granularity rating)!.

Velvia 50 is also a very high contrast film!. This is where the similarities end, however!. Unlike the subdued colors of Kodachrome, Velvia's color rendition is "over the top!." The grain is very fine, nearly as fine as is available!.

In addition, Kodachrome's color rendition tends to be slightly cool, while Velvia is a very warm film!.

For me, at least, I'll take Velvia over Kodachrome any day!. I love the color rendition of it!. I shoot Velvia all the time, while I've shot one roll of Kodachrome in the last year!. I send all of my slide film, both E-6 and K-14, to Dwayne's via Walmart anyway(where it's $4!.88 regardless of length or format), so processing is not an issue!.

EDIT:

I might also point out that Fuji reports that their transparency films have an archival life in excess of 80 years, which is nearly as good as Kodachrome!.

also, E-6 films hold up much better under viewing and projection than do Kodachrome!. Projecting a Kodachrome slide even once can kill a lot of the archival life of Kodachrome, while occasional projection of Fujichrome films won't harm them!.

I find it interesting that I've received a thumbs down for my opinion!. I suppose that I've been attacked by one of the raging hordes of Kodachrome lovers, who can't imagine anyone preferring any film over Kodachrome!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm partial to fujichrome!. Velvia 50 is a great film, but it's really slow making tripod use mandatory in most cases!. It has its uses!. I prefer a more versatile speed!. Sensia 200 would be my next choice above velvia, and it looks totally awesome when you cross it in C41 chemistry!. But that's another subject!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Either!.

Kodachrome will last forever!. Velvia is much easier to get developed!.

I like them both!.

I try to shoot a roll of Kodachrome occasionally so I can continue to support Dwayne's brave move of offering developing for it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
