Question: Should I be nervous about an Art School Portfolio (Graphic Design)!?
So, I'm looking into a few art schools (next year will be my Senior year of high school)!. The portfolio requirements range from simple to somewhat hard to understand!. I've contacted several colleges and such for more information, but I am still freaking out!. I've played around with a few things!. My experiences include being the designer editor and concept editor for our school yearbook and newspaper!. I love graphic design and want very badly to go to art school but the portfolio scares me!. Should I be nervous or just "do it to it"!? Any other tips!?

Thanks for the help!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since you have experience and the hard copies (of the newspaper and yearbook) to prove it, you should absolutely not be nervous at all!. That makes a huge difference, not just for art school but in real life employment!. Trust me, as long as your work is remotely aesthetically appealing, you're sitting pretty!.

Tips: Include 10 to 12 good pieces!. If you have a range of colour and black and white work, good, but no one expects you to be professional already, that's what you're going to school for, right!? Make sure you include your own original work only, and DO include a brief caption (Medium, size, date) and DON'T include a long-winded explanation or a high-flown artist's statement!. You can always save that for the application, if it's asked for!.

Don't show messy or bulky original work, instead, photograph it carefully and lay it out one piece per page in a nice portfolio!. It's always considerate to have them all pointing the same way so the viewer doesn't have to keep turning it!.

OK, now you know everything and you can prepare calmly without freaking out!. You will be admitted and will have a wonderful time once you get there!. Enjoy!Www@QuestionHome@Com
