Lets start with school!. I don't know about which colleges, but I do know that you would be looking for a major in Graphic Design!. If you are set on this, you would want to look for an art institute, like Savannah College of Art & Design!. In high school, you can be taking classes on Photography or any other art class!.

also with high school, I would suggest getting into the yearbook staff or the newspaper staff!. I do not know how your school does it!. I am the editor of my school's yearbook staff and yearbooks are a much bigger deal than you might think!. Look up NSPA (National Scholastic Press Association) and CSPA (Columbia Scholastic Press Association)!. I would definitely consider joining a staff and if the staff isn't tuned into the serious and professional nature of national award winning yearbooks!.!.!.you can make them be!. It will offer you TONS of experience!. It is probably too late to sign up this year, but you could go into school when it starts and "beg" if you could be on the staff!. You could tell them about your interest in graphic design and that you would like to see the book win national awards!. ;) If not you will have senior year and that is still good time to make up!.

The thing about programs!. Professionals use Adobe products!. You would want Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS3!. These are the programs that professional graphic designers use!. Adobe InDesign CS3 would be needed if you wanted to do magazines/books/etc!. It would be advisable to learn these programs really well!.!.!.!.they are pretty expensive!.!.!.but you can get 30 day trials and you can shop at the Adobe Education store since you are a student and get HUGE discounts!.

Getting into photography would also be a useful thing for further broadening of your abilities!. It is great that you are looking into this early because it gives you time to get ahead of the competition, which graphic design is all about!.

I wish you luck and hope that if this is the career you end up with you find an unending amount of joy from it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

While you are at it, look at the work of working designers!. Here are two:

Note in particular their education and that Mr!. Nelson has actually worked on ski slopes!. If you can get that kind of job, do it!. Right now, though, give trebbag best answer and do what he said!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
