What would be your reason for cropping the pictures and how would you be presenting them!?

From the two links you have listed it looks like you've almost cropped a panoramic shot out of a regular shot!.

If there's a lot of distracting or bland elements at the top and bottom of a picture that can be a really great way of displaying only a certain aspect of a shot!. Some places will even develop panoramic shots for framed display - although I believe there are generally more 'accepted' sizes that they adhere to when printing!.

If you want a shot framed that you can't get printed at the size you want, you can always have a custom frame and/or mat made to only showcase the part of the image you want shown!.

No rules as to cropping a shot!. In fact, this is where a lot of photographers fail the test

In your samples, the cropping did nothing to enhance the image!.

A good rule of thumb it to cull out all the unnecessary stuff that distracts from the shot, but if you haven't the eye for cropping, then you may be better off relying on your knowledge of composition!.
