You have a good idea to copyright your art work!. I also live in NY and i also love 2 draw!. So, anyways, back to the answer to your question!. this is what you have 2 do!.

Visual Art Works
Follow these steps to register your pictorial, graphic, sculptural, or architectural work:

Step 1
Make sure your work is a visual arts work!. Visual arts are pictorial, graphic, or sculptural works, including 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works of fine, graphic, and applied art!. Here are examples of visual arts!. "Useful articles" may have both copyrightable and noncopyrightable features (read details)!. Some architectural works also qualify as visual arts works (read details)!.

Step 2
Put into one envelope or package:

a completed application Form VA and Form CON if needed!.
a $45 payment to "Register of Copyrights!."
nonreturnable copy(ies) of the material to be registered!. Read details on deposit requirements!.
Please read this important notice about mail delivery disruption!.

Step 3
Send the package to:

Library of Congress
Copyright Office
101 Independence Avenue, S!.E!.
Washington, D!.C!. 20559-6000

You will get a certificate that says it is copy written in about 6 months!.
I'm sorry if it takes too long, but this is the official way to do it=(Www@QuestionHome@Com

Image guidelines

Images and photographs, like written works, are subject to copyright!. Someone holds the copyright unless they have been explicitly placed in the public domain!. Images on the internet need to be licensed directly from the copyright holder or someone able to license on their behalf!. In some cases, fair use guidelines may allow an image to be used irrespective of any copyright claims!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure how you get it official, but TECHNICALLY and LEGALLY something is copyright under you as soon as you create it!. You would just want it official so that you could prove it!. Until then, I'd put "Copyright: your name" under all of your stuff!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just sign each drawing with (c) 2008, MINX, All rights reserved!. Go back and do this with all your drawings, adjusting the date to match when you drew them

That will cover you until you can send in your copyright registration!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Copyright is US law, not NY law!. Look it up on the web!. If, however, you have allowed this to be used, your copyright might not work!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go here!. You can apply to copyright your designs here!.
