What is screen tonining?

Question: What is screen tonining!?

I know its for manga i just dont know what it is and what does it do and how do you use it!?Any help would be appreciated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Back in the old days, the ones I used are a like a transparent film that's sticky on one side!. The lines/dots/patterns are printed onto this film!. You do your drawing, ink it, then lay the film over the drawing and use an Xacto knife to cut the precise shape that you want!. The unused portion of film is then discarded or reused elsewhere!.

If you do it right, the screen pattern will look indistinguishable from the areas you pen-inked by hand, except the screen tends to be cleaner (obviously)!.

I'm sure when drawing on the computer, it's more or less a similar process to use a pasted screentone in Photoshop!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
