A professional can be either a person in a profession (certain types of skilled work requiring formal training / education) or in sports (a sportsman / sportwoman doing sports for payment)!. Sometimes it is also used to indicate a special level of quality of goods or tools!.

For instance, you are a face-painter!.

A Face-Painter need's to be cool as a cucumber under pressure, you need steady hand's when you're painting on someone's face!, or body!.

You could say you're Professional at Drawing, Painting or having an artistic-mind - this basically mean's you can come up with some good design's that are artistic'

You could also say you're good with kids, you're sociable!. You can't really face-paint and not talk to you're customer, so you need to be able to keep a conversation going!.

also you might have a good personality, you cant have someone who's boring, painting you're face, you might be good with people and this might lead to a good personality =DWww@QuestionHome@Com

It used to be that you had to be an accredited person in your field!. (An established body had to verify your membership)!.

Law, Science, Medicine, Teaching, Accountancy and so on!.

It has been degraded so that anyone can have this lable!.

To answer the question: These days you can call yourself a professional and nobody gives a damn!. Even then some people give more credence to an appearance on TV than to any ability!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you make a living off of it and you can call it your "profession"!.
"What do you do for a living!?"
"I paint faces!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are a proffessional at it if you make it your proffession, i!.e!. you get paid substancially for it!. If you don't get paid and have a second job to support yourself then you are an amateur!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
