For many years I was an art department head in a major university and the best answer that I can give you is !.!.!.1 do you have a driving desire to make art beyond all other things !? 2 will you get some one to evaluate your work at this point and give you some advise on direction and schools!. 3 do you have a support group behind you to help you over those times when you have doubts[these times come for even the best of us] or need financial support !? Your answer should be yes, yes, and yes!.
I would be more than happy to help you on the second question if you want me to!.!.!.just send me in emails pictures of what you think are your best pieces, like a mini portfolio

The art world is meant for artists, not really for those who want to teach!. That being said, many well established artists do teach at the University/Graduate level, but mostly they will say they are artists first, educators second!.!.and many (a few are my teachers) aren't really all that great at teaching "art" more so than they are at just critique!.!.!.which is more what a teacher who is an artist at the university level does!.!.!.they critique and sometimes teach a little bit of how to actually do stuff!.

If you are more interested in teaching technically how to draw/paint etc, study art education!. You can also teach with a masters in Studio Art, but if you really just want to teach I'd advise sticking to the art education programs and not wasting money/time with Studio Art!.

I'm a studio art grad!.!.!.I actually love teaching and I wouldn't mind being a prof, but first and foremost I work to get involved in exhibitions and to progress my career as an artist!. As an art education major, you will learn more about your opportunites to be an actual teacher in a school rather than if you can get into the exhibition up in LA next month!.

Hope that helps, good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Send away for brochures and other material (and also look up on the internet) provided by art colleges!. Look at a wide range of possibilities: ranging from a pure arts degree, graphic arts courses, book or comics illustration, textile design, theatre design, curatorship or gallery management, to courses to become a professional evaluator of artworks (very interesting career)!. Try also to speak to people engaged in the subject that interests you most and find out what the study and the work entails!. !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I majored in art many years ago!.!.!.commercial art to be more specific!.!.!.!.!.It was difficult to find a job in that area, so eventually, I went back to school and got my teaching certificate!. I am now retired and can kick back and do artwork if and when I want to!. It was very rewarding to watch the progress of the students that I had over the years!. Make no mistake about it!.!.!.!.TEACHING is getting tougher and tougher these days!. Many schools use art class as a dumping ground and you would have to be prepared to handle these kinds of students!. FORTUNATELY, I was in a situation where I had complete control over my program!. My HIGH was participating in art competitions every chance I got!. The students took a lot of pride in winning, just like in athletic competitions!. I MIGHT ADD that making a living from just painting, etc!. is a very difficult thing to do!. SO< YOU MIGHT keep this in mind as you prepare for higher education!.!.!.GOOD luck to you and GOD bless you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have been given good advice!.

If I were younger and deciding on an art career I would choose to teach it!. But also major in a second subject!. Selling art is so fickle!. You could be the best artist in the world and not sell anything!. Study and practice and practice some more!. Teach others to art and you will continue to learn art from them as well!. You master art don’t let art master you!.

I always say: “Keep Arting”
