Drawing things smaller so they look further awayWww@QuestionHome@Com

Foreshortening, in photography, is the distorted perspective of, say, a standing human figure in which the upper part looks closer and larger than the lower part, and the person looks shorter than they really are, all the result of a camera angle that's too high at a relatively close distance!. The solution is obviously to lower the camera to perhaps about the waist level of the subject, or to increase the camera-to-subject distance and use a longer focal length lens, or increase the focal length on a zoom lens!. In many cases foreshortening is used deliberately to achieve some dramatic effect!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Foreshortening adds dept to a drawing!. It's a part of perspective but usually has more to do with the main subject than the horizon!.

Take a look in the mirror and hold your hand out!. See how close (And big) your hand looks compared to your body and how short your arm looks between the two!? That's foreshortening!. It adds dynamics and mimics relative distances!. The cool thing about it is when used in drawing (Or painting, whatever) you can exaggerate things to freaky levels to make things seem like they're ranging from very close to very far when in reality they'd only be a few inches or feet apart!.

Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
