Position:Home>Visual Arts> GRAPHIC DESIGN or WEB DESIGN???Question: GRAPHIC DESIGN or WEB DESIGN!?!?!? I like designing stuff but not exactly sure of my career!. I dont like using InDesign or Dreamweaver but love Photoshop so Im kind of stuck!.

While the static page layouts work, essentially, the same way, web design tends to be more dynamic, with the abilily to include motion, sound, and dynamic links to other pages and sites that paper layouts cannot do!. But, to be a good web designer, one must first, be a good designer!. And, to do that, one should know how to use the most appropriate tools for the job!. You CAN create web pages in Photoshop!.(do some research on the "slice" tool) But you'll find that a LOT of the functionality of Dreamweaver, or other web design tools, missing!. So, for success in your career, I suggest you worry less about which tool you "like" or don't "like" using, and knuckle down an learn each of those applications!. For an analogy!. A good mechanic could, probably tear down and reassemble an engine with nothing more than a screwdriver and crescent wrench!. But, I'm sure, he'd rather, also, have a good set of sockets, ratchets, torque wrenches, box and open ended wrenches, calipers and other, usefull parephrenalia!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Graphic design will allow you to work on logos, business cards, magazines, layouts, stationery, t-shirts, signs, etc!. It's a bit broader!. Web design will be more logos, layouts, banner ads, buttons, etc!. In County college I'm majoring in Digital Media with an Emphasis on web design!. Now that I'm nearly done with the program, I felt it lacked design, which is what I enjoyed!. Yes there is design in web, very much so, but it's also good to have an idea of the technical side of how the web works as well!. HTML, Flash, etc!. Do you like working in web programs or perhaps a little coding!? You'll have to make it so your designs work for the programmers!. Now as I'm about to work on my Bachelor's degree, I'm switching to Graphic Design & Multimedia Arts!. It's similar to what I did before with dreamweaver, flash, photoshop--but now it'll become more design related!. If you're looking to get into Graphic design I suggest learning Illustrator, if you don't already know it!. Web and Graphic design are closely related, so I'd say it's just where you want to see your creativity go!.Www@QuestionHome@Com you can double major in both graphic and web, if you're planning on going to college for that!. that way you'll know for yourself which career path you like more!. To me, I think most of your works are something that would be more on the web design side!. If you're willing to adjust and adapt to using Dreamweaver, InDesign, etc!. then go for it!. If you are an artist go for Graphic Design and learn coding on the side seeing that you know the basics in Dreamweaver (from your profile)!. People are still looking for great graphic designers!. I do both because if you are a web designer, clients demand it otherwise it wouldn't be web design!. In graphic design if you focus on that, there are many things you can do - print design, web graphic design, t shirt design, and so on each with their own techniques!. Web design needs good graphic design!. But that said, everything seems to be moving to the web!.
