I use a UV filter on my Rebel XTi!.!.!. but really it's all about taking it off AUTO and using the different modes!.

Someone wrote a book all about this camera, I actually own it!.

It's called Canon Digital Rebel XTi/400D Field Guide!.!.!. by I 'think' Charlotte Lowrie!.!.!. not sure I don't have it near me!. It's the best book that I've read since it is directly for the camera that we are talking about!.

I'd say really you just need to learn to adjust your aperture and shutter to change the depth of field and movement in the photo!.

I though the same thing when I first got the XTi!. I was like, why do these look like I used a regular point and shoot, but with time I learned how to work everything and am now taking pictures that turn out much better!.

Here's some of my work:

If you would like, you can email me at laurenchildre@gmail!.com or on message me on my flickr if you have one and I can help you out with learning the different functions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There all kinds of filters to give different effects but maybe this is about things other than filters ~~~first and foremost is having the knowledge and ability you need to make a very good portrait ~~takes time and lots of learning ~~The best way to find out about filters is on line are the best way in my opinion is from someone at a camera shop~~also some of the things you may have seen and wanted to copy may have had work done on them in the photoshop and that is expensive and a lot of learning ~~Call around to your local schools to see if they have adult classes in photography~~
you can try http://digital-photography-school!.com There is a lot of ways to learn there from articles to others giving you advice on your work~~gooood place ~~~Have fun but take time to learn to do it right~~~That way you will not give up on photography and miss out on a lot of pleasure for your self and for others that like what your doing ~~~Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ok, two things:

DSLRs or SLRs don't make a good photographer!. You have to keep practicing!.

also, if you HAD to get a filter, go for a polarizer!. It blocks all reflected light off of non-metallic surfaces like glare on a window or the sunshine on ocean waves!. It also darkens the sky to an intense, rich blue!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only filter you really need is a polarizer!.

Every other effect you can possibly think of can be done in software!. Easier and cheaper than buying a case full of filters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

tools wont really help you, you need knowledge!.

if a builder buys a better hammer it dont make him a better builder - same with cameras!. doing a course on photography would be the fast way to learn
