Experimental film is a genre of films that "break the mold" and try something new in narrative or technique!. They're usually shorter and more difficult to interpret than most movies, but they often create new ideas for mainstream movies to use within more classic hollywood narratives!. I guess the most prolific and influential artists are probably Stan Brakhage and Maya Deren, but there are countless others!.
