There are many types of paint you can use on canvas that work equally well!. Oil, Acrylic and Gouache are probably the most common used on canvas!. It is all a matter of personal taste, so I recommend you try using both acrylic and oil!. Acrylic is less expensive and doesn't require as many tools, mediums and drying time!. I personally highly prefer oils!. This is because I like to blend, glaze and take my sweet time!. The end result is also more luminous!. If you are just looking to throw some paint on a canvas to begin, I would recommend acrylics!. E-mail me if you have more questions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it is truly canvas and not that coated canvas like you get at Hobby Lobby, and since you are asking the question you probably want acrylic!. It's the most forgiving!. Oils probably take longer to dry that you are willing to wait!. Watercolors are best with a fiber paper!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If depends it you want to wash it later or not!. It you want to wash it and keep what you're painting, use a fabric paint!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
