Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: There are many types of paint you can use on canvas that work equally well!. Oil, Acrylic and Gouache are probably the most common used on canvas!. It is all a matter of personal taste, so I recommend you try using both acrylic and oil!. Acrylic is less expensive and doesn't require as many tools, mediums and drying time!. I personally highly prefer oils!. This is because I like to blend, glaze and take my sweet time!. The end result is also more luminous!. If you are just looking to throw some paint on a canvas to begin, I would recommend acrylics!. It's the most forgiving!. Oils probably take longer to dry that you are willing to wait!.
