The technical editor of Amateur Photographer, the UK's leading photographic magazine, is on record as saying that 6 megapixels is perfectly adequate for the majority of amateur photographic needs!. The desire to cram more and more megapixels on to a chip is not so much a photographic matter as a desire by CankonPenFuNyPus to make more and more money from idiots who just must have the latest gadget and change their cameras every six months or so!. And, so far as the UK is concerned, to help ruin our economy to adding yet more to the mountain of personal debt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depends on how large you plan to print your photos!. When it comes to SLR cameras, megapixels isnt the only thing that matters!. Camera sensor is more important!. ISO sensitivity is more important!. The original 1D from Canon was only 4!.1 MP and it still takes amazing pictures!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only useful thing that lots of Megapixels give you is the ability to print large and the ability to crop and still have a printable image of reasonable size!.

Make sure they are genuine sensor Mp and not 'interpolated' from a smaller sensor though, check the spec's!.

6!. Many will say as much as you can get but some fine pictures came from less than 6!. The quality of the picture (which is not directly tied to the megapixells) is more important!. And the quality of the lens has alot of influence in that area!.

Most of the dSLRs that have come out in the last 2 years are pretty good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Any digital camera now-a-days will take a good picture!. It is all a matter of the person taking the photos!. If you plan on taking pictures to blow up on the side of buses than yes go for the 10mp one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

6 is fine!. You DONT need more than 10, despite what some people may say!.

My camera is only 6, and have had one of my pictures blown up to 50x70cm with no problem!.

Good luck, and hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My dad's SLR has 6ish, and it takes great pictures!. Sure, you can get 12, but that's for hard core stuff like uber posters!. Anyway my dad's camera takes fab pictures that are very clear!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

dSLR!? 8 megapix, minimum these days!. Although you can get perfectly excellent photos from dSLRs with less than that!.

Edit:
LOL! Thumbs-down'd by someone with an old dSLR, I bet!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was said once 9 beyond that is wasted unless you do alot of work above A3 size Lens is more imp' than pixsWww@QuestionHome@Com

5+ but you will probably find that most SLR's on the market have many more than that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

6+ don't settle for anything less!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
