As others have said, 8MP is plenty, and is thought by many to give a similar resolution to 35mm film!. The number of megapixels is only a starting point though, as, in addition to lens quality etc!., already listed above, there's the in-camera electronic processing to consider!. Some small compacts with very large pixel counts do not produce pictures anything like the quality achievable with a good digital SLR with fewer pixels!.

If it's a good 8MP camera with a good lens, you'll be amazed by the detail it can capture!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

8 megapixels is plenty!

If you're only making 4x6 prints, you could easily get by with 4 or 5!.

Remember that megapixels is a unit of area, and area is a square function, so 8 an eight megapixel image is not twice as wide as a 4 megapixel one!. It has twice the area, yes, but a 16 megapixel camera produces images twice as wide as those of a 4 megapixel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

8 mega pixels is pretty good, the higher the number the better the camera quality!.
but sometimes if it is a reallycheap camera that says its 8MP it mught not be that good!. they normally say 8MP for each colour but a cheap camera might actually mean 8MP for allof the colours added up!.
but with 8 you should be garanteed a good cameraWww@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry you've gotten so confused by the "Megapixel Nazis!."

An 8 MP camera is MORE than enough to make great prints a large as 8x10, and even bigger if you choose!.

What's way more important is learning to use your camera correctly, paying attention to lighting and composition !.!.!. and not expecting Photoshop or some other software pgm!. to bail you out when you take a crappy shot!.

BTW, I'm a pro, and only recently got a 10!.2 MP camera (Nikon DSLR)!. Before that I was shooting with a 6 MP Nikon and have made prints as large as 20x30!

Of all the things that are important about the quality of a camera and it's ability to deliver good images, megapixel rating is about # 5 on the list!Www@QuestionHome@Com

8 mega pixels is quite adequate and is above average for most cameras!. The quality you get will meet all all your needs, if you did want posters, it would be OK , it would not show any grain!. Only two years or so ago 8 mega pixels would have been top of the range!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

8 megapixels will do the job for normal size photos, I have a 7!.2 megapixel, and it blows pics up to 8x10s with no problem at all!. If you only want normal 4x6s, 8 megapixels might be overkill, but it'll do the job for sure!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

That make it AVERAGE!.

the real quality of a camera is NOT the megapixels but the quality of the lens, a mobile phone with 12Mpix will not take as good a picture a s decent lens with 5 mpix!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

8 Megaixels will blow up to around 16" x 20" without a problem!.
Or if you want it bigger just change the image size in Gimp of Photoshop!.

8Mb is good enough for most purposes!.

It's not just the mega pixels, it's the size of the sensor, the optics and the brains behind the camera!.

3!.1 meg image here!.!.

8 megapixels is fine but remember that they are no good if the optics aren't up to scratch!.Make sure that you buy a camera with a good quality lens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could print up to 12x18" and it would show pixelation, if you had the camera on the highest resolution setting!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, it does not!. As recently as 5 years ago you were lucky to be able to get a camera with more than 5megapixels - and every one was happy!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Eight megapixels is plenty of resolution for normal size photos!. MORE than enough, actually!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

that's good you'll be pleased with the result if it's just everyday stuff , in fact very good quality !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Thats good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's ok , use the 16!.9 setting if you want to watch your photos on your tvWww@QuestionHome@Com

That is more than enough:)Www@QuestionHome@Com

nope thats good (;Www@QuestionHome@Com
