Question: Art question!!?
I'm going to enter a painting at the Sonoma County Fair but one of the rules isn't quite clear to me!.!.!.

It says it must be an original work of the exhibitor!.!.!.

well the theme this year is "Star Spangled Banner" (patriotic basically) and i thought it would be a cool idea to paint the "Uncle Sam Wants You" picture with my own twist!.

I was going to put in place of Uncle Sam, the Sonoma County Fair Mascot!.!.!.!.and maybe the fair in the background!.!.!.!.so it's like he's saying, "Barnabee wants you!.!.!.!.for the fair!.!.!." haha or something like that!.

anyway that was my idea!.!.!.!.but do you think i can do that!?!.!.!.!.would it be considered my original!?

Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, that is original because no one has thought of it(and banked on it) before, and you're only taking inspiration from the Uncle Sam picture!.

Besides, I read in a book that "good artists borrow!. Great artists steal!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

An original work is usually anything that is the actual painting/drawing it's self, not a print or other copy of it!. The exhibitor would be you, or whomever was entering the piece in the contest!. So your idea would fit into that catergory, but I'm not sure that's what they meant by "Star Spangled Banner"!. They might find your idea mocking their contest's subject matter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is considered original!. Seems like a fun idea!. As long as the mascot doesn't look so much like Uncle Sam, add some other colors and change the style and you're good to go!.
Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Thats a really creative and fun idea!. I think you should run with it!Www@QuestionHome@Com
