You have to mix your paints with sand or any grainy texture that you find, that can mix with the type of paint you use, and adhere to the type of surface you paint on as well, weather it be oil, acrylic, alkid, water color, etc!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. some people let there paint dry a little before application, creating a rough texture look called impasto!. Its paint laid on very thick!. I usually add pumice or heavy crushed sand, like silica!. Which is a form of pumice!.!.!.!. In a way!.!.!. also, some people apply the medium differently!.!.!.!. Either with a brush, or a knife, or even with the hands!. It all depends on you, and how you like to do things!. Art has no limits!.!.!.!.!. Have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is a substance called "Impasto Gel" its like a white glue which you mix with your paints (and it doesnt alter the colours at all) and you apply the paint onto your canvas using a palette knife to achieve that roughness!. The impasto gel makes the paint thicker in a sence, and will dry according to the texture you create!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
