Photoshop is not like Picassa or the HP photo retouching software that comes with many digital cameras!. It's used mostly by Graphic Artists for pre-printing press or pre-web photo work, then the finished product is incorporated into other professional software for final output!.

Learning only the color palettes alone takes awhile as they are separated between CMYK, Pantones for printing and RGB for web!. Unless you have the proper screen, calibration software, etc!. what you see on your screen will not be the color that prints out!

If you ask me, I learnt it by trial and erro!. Am no expert, but I can do some decent work on it!. Ofcourse, I did ask questions to my colleagues on how a particular works and so on!.
