Well it depends on the school you attend, as well the program at the school and if its a college or university!.

Colleges can sometimes be more hands on while some universities have more theory, like art history and writing more on art as well as your own pieces!.

Usually first year is a time that you learn about different forms and areas of art and sort of have a crash course on the basics for the first year to make sure everyone is on the same level because not all high school are good at exploring the fine arts then others!.

So you will learn everything from:

Painting
Drawing
Sculpture
Photography
Film
Art History
Printmaking
Silk Screen

As well as how to critique other people as well as yourself, but in a language and terms that maybe new, You will learn things about the elements of a composition, and look at art differently and start to see everything and all the work involved and finally understand why some people may stare at one piece of art for more then two minutes!. As well not just doing art but then learning to cultivate all your ideas behind your work to explain it which may sometimes be harder then doing the art!.

The work differs per school, buy usually in some programs your last year you get to strictly what you want to do!.

It can be a hard process for some and more emotional then physical but in then end if you succeed you will more confident to say your an artist as well knowing all aspects even if your not good at all, because you may not know all when it came to your fellow classmates but when back with your family and friends you will feel that you did learn stuff and have a body of work to show proof!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
