Question: Think my son has a future in photography!?
These are some pictures my 12 year old took!. He likes taking pictures, and I let him play with my camera sometimes!. I'm going to get him a camera for his birthday, what do you recommend for a beginner but that's not too "kiddish" either!. He says he wants to be a photographer when he grows up!. I think he already has an eye for it, what do you think!? Any tips you want to give him to help him make his pictures better!? Thanks!

Your son DEFINATELY has an artistic eye!. Good use of proper framing and focusing!. He has the talent and skills to be a good photographer in the future!. If you are looking for a good camera I would suggest that he go with DIGITAL and NOT 35 mm!. As a beginner he will spend a LOT of money of film and development if he gets a 35mm film camera!. With a digital camera, he can simply delete all of the poor quality or bad photos at very little expense!. (Trust me!.!.!.!.there will be a lot of those) I would personally suggest the Canon EOS cameras such as the D-40 or D-60 or the new D-80 camera!. They are very user friendly and easy to get professional results the first time you start using them!. You could get the camera and lens with a flash used on e-bay for a very cheap price, or a new kit for probably less than $800!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In my experience the best thing that can help him become a better Photographer (because he is already pretty good with no formal education) is practice on the same object!. If he take say 15 pictures of one object with different angles he will soon learn which angles are the best for which object and hopefully he will learn the lighting and shadow aspects which really make or break a photo!. So with changing the light (if possible) and taking different angles of one object, I think he can learn a lot!.

Hope I helped

I really enjoyed looking at his photos!. I am also really partial to snow scapes!.

If you get him a Kodak Z812 IS then learning to use all of its features will further his education!.

You might look for books on lighting and composition to help him better see how to get the great shots!.

Your encouragement is a big help to him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
