I can't remember who it was, but someone just posted a B&W of a man's face who looked like he had been in a coal mine!. For this kind of study, f/1!.4 is always better!. (haha!!!)

Of course, it reminds me of this, too, which is an f/1!.4 shot:

but I wouldn't expect anyone else to say that!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Looks like it's from the 1940's or 50's!. No, I wouldn't, but then I don't do this sort of photography!. Not sure about your query regarding aperture!. How do you know what aperture was in fact used!? If you mean depth of field, yes, it's used to good effect but don't forget d-o-f is related to focal length as well as aperture!. A 1940's press camera would utilise a lens length which would generate a far shallower d-o-f than a modern camera because of the larger image size!. Oh, yes, it reminds me of the sort of shot Weegee would have done!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Excellent photograph!. I'm not a big fan of black and white, but I have to admit that this one kept me captivated for several minutes!. The only thing I'd have done differently is to place the man just a little bit more to the left for composition sake, so his eyes are more in the center of the frame!. But, that's just me!. The depth of field is perfect; no problem there!. Great job!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, it reminds me of me, after an evening on the lash with Gus Hurst!.!.!. coffee, bacon sandwiches, cigarettes and ibuprofen required - preferably a horse tranquilizer - fast!

No, I wouldn't take it, my hands would be shaking too much and I'd be too frail to get my camera on the tripod, having aged approximately 150 years overnight!.!.!. at that stage I'd be struggling to remember what f1!.4 was too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

F1!.4 might have been too much!.!.!.judging by the amount the background is blured at a guess it's probably F8 +/- 1 stop, I think it gives just enough detail to make the location clear and the era without distracting from the main subject!.
The image conveys the harsh reality of life of some folks!.
No I doubt I would take one like this, not my style of photography but I do like it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good composition of the subject!. I would take a photo like this!. I don't know if it's the site causing this- his face looks out of focus!. It doesn't look like a photo from possibly the 60's with the vintage looking car in the background!. F1!.4 could be better, but again his face is already looking out of focus so be careful how large aperture goes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow, he's had a bad night!.
I like the environment, it's part of the story, so I like the current DOF!.

Great image!.
Yes i would like to take one like it!.
It reminds me that I am glad I'm tall and at home!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like the picture!. It says desperation to me!.!.!.!. I don't know anything about f stops so I couldn't tell you what would have been better than what you did though!. It is a compelling picture though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
