Question: What gives a painting its value!?

What do yo think about the art noveau style paintings!?
i personally love art noveau paintings especially those of alphonse mucha!. are you fond of art noveau!? also what makes a painting valuable!? I mean picassos paintings go for millions while alphonse muchas are'n't quite as valuable!.

To be honest, it's probably the painter's reputation!. If they're dead then they will become harder to get hold of so that will further boost the value!.

also, it will depend on how prolific the painter was or how many of their paintings have survived, regardless of the period, though that's not always the case, such as Van Gogh who was amazingly prolific!. I know it's not noveau but a da Vinci is priceless because there's virtually none around!.
