You haven't specified which version of the 16-35 you are considering!. I believe the 17-40 outperforms the original 16-35 in terms of sharpness, but the new Mark II version 16-35 is the best of the three!. You really need to think about how important that extra stop of light is to you, because it's an expensive feature!. If you mostly want to use it on a tripod shooting landscapes, then there is no reason at all to want a faster lens!. If you think you would use that extra bit of speed and you have the money, then go for it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your buying L lenses if this is your widest then get the 16-35mm, if you already have a 10-22mm then the 17-35mm is good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the 16-35 has a wider aperture which will let you photograph in lower lighting!. it's better to get a wide aperture lens!. it has more options when shooting!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I had opportunity to use both lenses, they are both awesome lenses, I'd go for the 16-35!.!.!. I love the width of the 16-35, it's fantastic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My co-workers says EF 16-35mm are the best, they seems very happy with them!. I hope when you do decide which one you will get, you will be ok with them
