d300

Usage of high ISO without drawbacks, large collection of lenses that are compatible from as far back as the 1950's, nikon user interface, and it feels like a tank, as it is!. I've used it and the d200 in -20F weather with no failures of any kind!. Its a camera i know i can do most anything to and it will still work!.

Nothing wrong with the 40d, just my preference on the nikon system!.

As for the sony, i cant stand the sony user interface in the menus, as well as the cheap feeling of the body!.

I don't know enough about the olympus, but i would be concerned about the lens situation and how small the collection and selection, and versatility of their lenses!. Most are slow (poor aperture), and therefore inferior to the higher end optics available form canon or nikon!.

I would steer you towards the big two companies because of their proven track records and service!. I had a sharpness issue with my 50 mm and i sent it back in the warranty and they checked it, served and cleaned it for no charge!.

Without a doubt, the Nikon D300!. Better features, better sensor, better high ISO performance, better selection of lenses!. The Canon 40D is in a lower class, and is not as advanced as the Nikon D300, but still a great camera!. The Olympus E-3 is well built, however, suffers from the clunky 4/3 sensor; making it difficult to print, and causes not as clean/crisp of images!. The Sony A700 is a great camera, from what I've seen, but does not have a large number of lenses available, as well as the Olympus!. The D300 takes the cake!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Either the Nikon D300 or Canon 40D!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
