Step one: Go to cons!. Talk to pros!. Network!. Show your work, bring a portfolio, and if they have an art show -- yes, spend money on a space to show and sell if you can your fan art!.

Do samples on 14 by 17 inch smooth or plate finish (preferred) bristol board!. Make the actual drawings 10x15!. Get a good presentation portfolio from Staples, and you have to pay extra for pages!. This is for actual submissions, which you are usually going to have to do!.

It's okay to photocopy them at 2/3 the original size -- which means they will exactly fit on an 8 1/2 x11 page the way the original copy would if you are going to send them in!.

Dark Horse says they will no longer return copies and will only contact you if they want work for you!. Nevertheless, they have submission guidelines up on the web!. Check them out in Sources!.

DC Comics says on its submissions page it is not accepting anything by mail nevertheless, Go to comics conventions, and it offers you the chance to download guidelines for its DC Talent Search program!. Again, I have posted the relevant page in sources and despite the disappointing news read the WHOLE THING!.

Marvel's page is also there!. It says you MAY email them high-quality scans of your work (but no more than 2 - 400K per scan) and no more than 5 pages!. Again, read it carefully!. They will get back to you IF THEY ARE INTERESTED IN YOUR WORK!. They have this statement too:

"Before submitting any material, download the Marvel Idea Submission Form (MISF)!. PLEASE READ THIS DOCUMENT CAREFULLY!. This form outlines the relationship between you and Marvel Entertainment, Inc!. ("Marvel") concerning your submission!. By signing this document, you are acknowledging that Marvel continually generates new comic book ideas in-house, as well as from outside sources, and that Marvel has no liability for similarities between your submission and possible future Marvel products or properties!."

They say they won't look without it!. Believe them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
