Question: How should I mail a charcoal drawing!?
I'm no artist, but I have taken classes enough that I can do a decent charcoal drawing!. I want to mail this one I did to my girlfriend!.

I laid the charcoal on a little thick, so I'm afraid it might rub off or something!.

I also don't want it to bend!.

I wrapped the paper in plastic wrap, so I think it should be ok, at least as far as rubbing off!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cutey is right about using fixative!. Do not use plastic wrap as it has a static charge and it will cause a lot of problems!. The best kind of slip sheet is just a simple sheet of paper!. If you lay it on your artwork and then put it into a card portfolio of same size you'll be fine!. Just make sure there is no weird pressure points on it!.

But start with Cutey's advice and get some spray fixative and absolutely get rid of the plastic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The first thing you definitely need to do is use a fixative!. Gently blow off the excess charcoal dust, and then go outdoors and spray it down with a can of spray fixative, which you can find in any arts/crafts supply store!. Spraying in two coats is advisable!.

Then, I would suggest laying down a sheet of wax paper over the drawing, and taping it in one or two spots along the top and bottom edge, to make sure that the papers won't rub together during shipping!.

If the drawing is large, your best bet is to roll it delicately with no less than three inches of diameter, with the wax paper intact!. You'll need to ship it in a cardboard tube, which you can buy at the post office!.

If the drawing is small (like 11x17 or smaller) you may be able to get away with lightly mounting it inside a cardboard folder, and mailing it flat rather than rolling it up!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Roll it up and mail it in a wrapped paper towel tube!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
