Constant submersion in water loosens the glue that holds the brushes bristles together!. Soon enough the brush would begin to lose its bristles!.!.!.not to mention that unless the bush was suspended in the water container, the bristles would also lose their shape!. After cleaning your brushes in whatever medium you are currently using (water, paint thinner etc!.), it is best to dry the bristles as best you can on paper towels or the like and just lay them flat (so the bristles retain their factory shape) on yet another paper towel to absorb any cleaning medium that may remain in the bristles!.
Cleaning in this manner will allow you to keep your brushes in the best shape possible for quite a long time!.

"It is never advisable to leave brushes in water!. The water may cause the handle to swell and split the ferrule!. If left for any length of time, the water will destroy the elasticity of the bristles and cause them to become flabby!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

The reasons given already are excellent and well advised!. Unless you have lots of money to waste, you'll learn to take care of your equipment!. Develope good working habits now to save time and money later!.
