Question: Has anyone ever taken a painting class!?
If so did you have to spend a lot of money on supplies, over $100 or $200!?

Did you have to carry a big canvas around in public or did it fit in a portfolio!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes!. In high school we worked with canvas and acrylics, and used basic brushes, so it was under $50 a year!.

In college they expect you to buy much bigger canvas 18X24inches and up, and use different kinds of paints!. Oils require more supplies, so then I had to buy a whole new set of brushes, turpentine, paint, etc, and it definitely ran me $100!. I only used my large canvas portfolio/bag in drawing class, because its not practical with paintings!. With paintings, especially oils you have to carry them by hand (or in a really flexible trashbag) because they most likely will be wet (especially an oil painting)!.

Instead, I simply carried around a tool box (or fishing tackle box) that held all my brushes, dishes, and paints!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

In highschool: no, there wasn't a lot of money involved!. But they did usually ask me to spend money on supplies I didnt actually need, like a certain brand of brush or paint (it usually doesn't matter which brand, just the size/type of paint)!. Less than $100!.

in college: you're expected to buy a lot more supplies, so yes, you have to pay more!. maybe around $200 a semester!. (paper costs a lot!. as do canvases!.)

Outside of school: usually a little less than a class for college!. But the teachers get a lot more specific with what supplies you have to buy!

you'll only have to carry around a big canvas if it's wet!. other than that, there's no reason it can't fit inside a portfolio!. plus, you usually wont have to carry it around anyway!. your teacher knows what a hassle it is, and will probably have a spot to leave your paintings between classes!. if not: beware of gusty winds! they catch canvases particularly well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In HS the supplies for my painting class were very small!. I don't recall carrying any canvases!.

In college, the cost of supplies was more, but still less that $100!. Yes, here I did have to carry all of my supplies and paining paper - this is coming from someone who took painting as an elective, not major!.

Good Luck!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

In college or in high school!?
In high school!.!.!.no!.!.!.although we did complete a large scale work on canvas!. It was provided for us because we weren't allowed to keep the piece when we were done!. It's up on display in my school!.!.!.

No, I don't suppose you will have to carry around a large canvas, unless you are painting something in public!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
