The first pic is terrible!.
First things first!. The film!. If you are going to take pictures of people with dark colored skin use either color film or if you have to use black and white film buy a black and white film specifically for portraits and that has a very good resolution!.
This is because dark skin colors absorb the light more than light colored skin!.

Second, the positioning of your subject is stupid!. I mean get real!. Standing against the bathroom wall in front of the toilet with her head twisted toward the camera and her eyes rolled up!. The positioning of your subject should seem natural not forced!. Try this for a photo!. Since everybody will be barbecuing and grilling on May 26 since it is Memorial Day, take a picture of the chef applying the barbecue sauce to the meat or catch some one unawares as they are about to chomp down on a burger!.

The picture of your baby nephew is pretty good!. You centered on the baby not the hand holding him!. This is good!.
What I said earlier about using differant films for subjects with dark and light skin still applies!.
Think of it this way!. Shine a flashlight at a perfectly white sheet of paper!. What happens !? The white sheet of paper reflects the light back!.
Now find something perfectly black!. Shine your flashlight at it and what happens!? A small spot of light shows on the black surface!. This is where the black surface is slowly absorbing the light!. This is why a black car heats up faster than a white car!. The black car is absorbing the light and thus the heat of the sun faster than the white car!.

Things like shutter speeds,aperture size and f/stops controll the amount of light that comes in and the rate it comes in at!.
Think of light as water!. By controlling your shutter speed,aperature size and f/stop you can have a tidal wave come thru a pin hole real fast or a trickle of water come in through a giant hole real slow or any combination you can think of!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think the first one the young lady did not want to have your photo taken, perhaps she was in a vulnerable position and you caught her and she caught you! I am surprised some unseemly things did not happen to you and/or your camera!. The composition of the one with the baby is fine but way under exposed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

to be 100% honest, i think its a african american girl, aged 11-14, earing on one ear, perhaps both, standing in a bathroom, wearing a striped sweater, and looks unhappy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
