I am envisioning that you are considering architecture as a college major, as you are curious about the type of free time that you will have!. I went through school in the architecture department, and in comparison to other majors, I have to be honest and tell you that it will take up a big chunk of your time, specifically in your design studios (be prepared to put in all nighters before your projects are due)!. It is for a good reason though, because it is essential in a good knowledge base of design!. You will have other courses that will require number crunching and supplemental instruction, but they hardly make up the core of participation!. If pursued, take full advantage of learning and applying ideas and concepts, for the technical aspects will take years to acquire anyways, because architecture encompasses a lot!. Even though all college work takes quite a bit of time, architecture does demand commitment!. It also depends if you will uphold a job, and how much partying you think you are going to do!. I had a job, partied, and got good grades, so it is definitely doable!.
