Position:Home>Visual Arts> Is this a cool self-portrait?Question: Is this a cool self-portrait!? I took this picture some months ago, and my dad got me Photoshop like to two weeks ago!. I really only tweked it a little!. What do you think about it!? Could it be considered "artsy"!? Thanks a lot! :]

Either by accident or design, you've followed the rule of thirds - with the added bonus of having your best facial feature (your pretty eyes) in the first intersection!. You've selected a lovely model, who just happens to be you, so that makes the picture pleasing to the eye!. However, it's not a perfect picture!. You say that you tweaked it "a little"!. I say that you over tweaked it!. If you load the image in Photoshop and look the Levels, you will see that you lost about 80% of the detail!. Advice!. When you make adjustments on on image in Photoshop, you will get better results if you adjust it to what looks right, than back off about 20%!. If you do Shadow/Highlight adjustment and sliding Shadows to about 20% looks right to you, then back it off 15-18% instead!. This way, you will get the effect you want, but not so much that it is an obvious edit!.
