You have some decent answers, but they do not take into account that you have a Canon SD600 and not a bigger camera!.

You probably can't find a diffuser for your SD600, but try placing a layer or two of facial tissue over the flash to act as a diffuser!. I've also seen where people take the handle of a gallon milk container and cut sort of a clip out of it so that it grips over the corner of the camera and covers the flash to act as a diffuser!.

Alternately, you can use a sheet of poster paper held by an assistant out of the picture to bounce some sunlight onto your subject while they are sitting in the shade!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!.Use large diffusers on light sources if possible!.

2!. Use as many light sources as you can spread out so that your subject is lit from all directions!.

Like someone else said, one way is to shoot a flash through a white umbrella !.!.!. but also, if you have no flash and no umbrella, cloudy days will produce soft diffuse light for free!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
