Rather than try to give a route map it is easier to say what it is not!.Abstract Art is not a picture,it is about what Paintings,Sculpture Collage,Drawings,or what ever,are about!.Colour,Form,Structure,Tone, arrangements of Shapes,Textures,the stuff that things are madeof,which are assembled in such a way as to appear meaningful!.When an artist makes a piece of work they use various techniques to give an illusion!.Abstract Art is a study of the processes we use to make what used to be pictures!.Now that Photography has in some ways freed Art from pictorialism, artists are free to explore the nature of the activity we usually call Art!.Abstract Art is an exploration of this activity which is common to all societies throughout time!.It attempts,successfully,or not, to explore universal qualities!.It is an attempt to create a visual language which can be understood in it's own vocabulary,like visual Music!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's believed that there's a universal pool of emotions that humans can have!. That we all share those emotions/experiences!. The abstractionists would convey the emotions they were feeling while they painted in their work and the object was to make you share some feeling when you looked at it!.
