I had my own small budget wedding photography business (I had shot over 100 weddings on my own) but also worked for another better known professional wedding photographer!. I did his proofs, printed the newspaper photos etc!. The night before a wedding he had a heart attack and phoned me from the hospital asking me if I could fill in for him the next morning at a wedding!. I agreed and showed up at the wedding as a favor for him!. The bride was extremely upset, she kept whining about how she paid for the "better" photographer and that's who she wanted!. I told her again that he was in the hospital and could be dying!. I also told her that he would probably adjust the fee he was charging!. I also told her if she wanted me to leave I would!. I don't think she smiled the entire wedding!. I would have thought she'd be happy that the head guy arranged for someone to cover her wedding, but she wasn't!. I did get decent photos anyway!.Www@QuestionHome@Com You should see if you can find someone in your trade that you could trust as an alternate!.!.!.and agree to fill the same role for them in times of need!. If that's not an option, take the medicine and muscle through it!. The fact is that the bride and groom have been planning the event for 3 moths to a couple years!. Dropping out last second could have severe repercussions to their event!. And I promise it will work horrors on your reputation!. In this instance, when you arrive, apologize to the family and do your absolute best!. Tell the party that the pictures might take a little longer to stage due to the issue!. I took a day off for illness in 1978 when my doctor called me and told me that he read my x-ray and I have pneumonia and had no business working!. Other than a car crash in the same year, that's about it!. I will give myself a "30 Years of Perfect Attendance" pin at the end of the year!.
