Question: What do you think of my first serious painting for art class!?
I'm 15 and I've never really painted before until this year in my 2-D art class!. I really enjoy it and this is how my first painting turned out: http://www!.flickr!.com/photos/21233243@N0!.!.!. The photo really doesn't show any of the detail, and I apologize for that!. It's all done in acrylics!. I only had red, blue, yellow, black, and white paint, so I mixed all the colors!.
I'd really like some constructive critism and feedback!. What do you think!? also, can anyone come up for a name for it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I like it!.

I see that you have used some shading!. But the light source on the left hand side seems to be coming from a different direction than on the right hand side!.

I would have used different colors on the "rock" or dirt pile in the middle of the water so it would look less like a pile of poop!. Maybe if it had some vegetation on it and wasn't so tall!.!.!.!.

I reiterate, that I like it!. If I didn't think you had potential, I wouldn't take the time to give you a critique!. It is an excellent first effort!.

You did a fine job of mixing colors and I see no problem with detail!. Never apologize!.

I would name it something that indicated it's isolation, or the movement you have brought to the water which seems to be the primary focus!.

Or shoot for simplicity and call it Harbor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not bad!. It shows a knowledge of light and shadow!. I would encourage you to seek out consistency in this regard!. also, you may find it helpful when you paint water to think of it as "frozen"!. By this I mean that the water is no longer fluid, but rigid!. Using horizontal strokes to indicate the water's surface can help you to create this illusion!.also, pay attention to the concept of atmospheric perspective when painting landscapes-even abstract ones!. This is the idea that the earth's atmosphere is dense enough to cause objects farther to appear grayer or bluer in comparison!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think It's awesome, I'm in art, It's better than I could have done!.!.!.Maybe name it the Mountainous Coast, or Rising Up, or small boat, Big Mountain, It's really good for a first painting, there are some flaws, but keep doing art and you will get better, never stop, and if you mess something up, make it into something else to make it fit inWww@QuestionHome@Com

actually its really nice, i really like the shading of the rock in the middle & the cave!. the sky is beautiful 7 the ocean has a good amount of shading between the different colors of blue, good job:)Www@QuestionHome@Com

ok, good beginning!. But don't forget, there is lot of work in front of you!. One painting does not make you a master, nor 100, nor 1000!.

I saw an Acrylic Painting Technique guide it is helpful

Acrylic painting is the medium of choice for many artists because of the ease of cleaning up and the quick drying time!. Since acrylics are water-based, brushes can be cleaned up with water in most cases!. Acrylics can also be thinned with water or other substances to create different effects with the paints, such as a watercolor appearance on your canvas!.

You can also paint a layer upon layer with acrylic painting, which allows an artist to add finer points to pictures or correct mistakes easily!. Because acrylic painting is rather easy to do, they are a popular option for many beginning artists as well as more seasoned painters!.

Acrylic Painting Technique A Step by Step Guide
Before beginning your adventure into acrylic painting, you definitely need to put on proper clothing!. Acrylic paint is water-soluble only until it dries, making it nearly impossible to wash out of fabric!. For this reason, you will definitely need to wear old clothes and a paint smock before beginning any work with acrylic painting!.

You can use these paints on nearly any surface, but they work particularly well on textured surfaces like canvas or textured paper!. However, with a proper base coat or primer applied, you can use acrylic painting to accent wood, terracotta, and even glass!. These paints are a very popular choice for decorative painting projects!.

Since acrylics dry quickly, this can pose a challenge for mixing colors!. There are special palettes that you can purchase for acrylic painting that will enable the paints to stay wet longer!. This can be a prudent investment if you are planning to do a lot of painting!. Bristle brushes generally work best with this type of paint, and synthetic bristles tend to be preferred over natural materials!.

Remember to invest in high quality brushes if you can, since these will last longer and normally give you better results!. Look for a stiffer bristle since the paint is thicker, unless you are planning to water it down to the density of watercolors!.

While you are doing acrylic painting, keep your brushes washed out as soon as you are finished with them!. Once the acrylic painting dries, it will be very difficult to make your brushes clean!. If you don't want to continue to interrupt your painting session to wash brushes, keep a cup of water at your easel to leave your brushes in until you can clean them!. If the paint is a bit stubborn, a little soap added to your water should wash your brushes out quite nicely!.

Acrylic painting is a fun and versatile medium that even a budding artist can learn to master!. Invest in a few basic paint colors, brushes and canvas, and see what your creative spirit can create!. You just might surprise yourself with your results
